Just a little background …

Festival of India organizers would like to take this opportunity to thank the two hundred and thirty-five volunteers and every sponsor who made this event possible, as well as the 8000 plus patron who came out to show their support and partake in all things Indian at the festival.

The 3 day event featured musical and dance acts from India and North America. As well, there were over 60 workshops to choose from, featuring everything from yoga, to lessons in Bollywood dancing. Over 20 vendors also delighted patrons with their wares, selling everything from Indian jewellery to handicrafts. And there was an abundance of Indian food to choose from, satisfying even the most finickiest of eaters.

The festival is becoming something people look forward to each summer in Ottawa and is attracting a wide array of people. Festival of India is grateful for the support and attention the festival is attracting from the community, including from Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson:

The three day event, opened by Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, was a great success, thanks to the diverse programming, perfect weather and wonderful performances by various dance and music troupes.  The food was a massive hit with the crowds who loved the tasty treats, from many regions of India. It was prepared on site by dedicated and talented local cooks.

Mayor Jim Watson said that he was glad he was able to attend: “I am delighted to lend my support to this premier Festival shining the spotlight on local and international artists of Indian heritage, in addition to showcasing the diversity of languages, cultures and traditions of India through classical folk, fusion and modern dance, song and music performances.”

Festival organizers are already preparing for the next event which will take place on August 5th, 6th and 7th 2016 at Ottawa City Hall.
